Melbourne-based artist Maxine Gillon has made a name for herself with her accomplished songwriting that showcases both her literate & abstract lyricism as well as her hypnotic & lush production arrangements. Across both vivacious pop songs and ethereal ballads, her inimitable sound draws from indie pop, shoegaze, western twang & power pop elements.
After releasing her breakout EP ‘Ultra Lounge' in late 2022, she returned in 2024 with singles ‘Lipstick’ and ‘Venus of Brunswick East’. Her work has been met with plays and praise from Spotify, Music Victoria, FBI, 2Ser, RRR, PBS, 4ZZZ, NTS (UK), RUSSH Magazine, Music Feeds, Pilerats & Demure Magazine.
As an artist and musician she has supported Jen Cloher, Underground Lovers, Baxter Dury, Cash Savage and the Last Drinks, The Goon Sax, Girl and Girl and Kim Salmon to name a few. Her work has also featured guest appearances from alternative luminaries such as Jonnine Standish (HTRK) & Lindy Morrison (The Go-Betweens).
"Maxine Gillon is a career artist dedicated to contributing a body of work that will change the Australian rock canon. She is interested in conceptual work that challenges both herself and the listener, seeking always to expand her growth as a song-writer and performer."

"Maxine Gillon is a Melbourne-based, singer-songwriter whose cerebral and intelligent approach to music sets her apart in the indie rock scene. Her compositions are rich in lyrical depth and musical complexity, drawing listeners into a world of introspective exploration. Gillon’s sound is distinctly tinged with influences from iconic bands like The Velvet Underground, The Triffids and others, infusing her tracks with a blend of raw, underground energy and hauntingly poetic melodies. Her ability to weave these influences into her own unique style demonstrates a profound understanding of her musical roots, while also showcasing her innovative spirit."
- Deb Pelser
"Much like the artist, 'American Coffee' drips with sardonic coolness which isn't that surprising given that the Melbourne based singer-songwriter delivers music that sounds worldly in its ambitious production.
